Bottega Veneta & amends

No, I am not neglecting you, I am just taking a small break since I am going to start working 4 times a week (instead of 3 times) starting tomorrow. First world problems.

Still, I simply had to share Bottega Veneta's collaboration with the Dutch photographer Erwin Olaf regarding their F/W campaign 2012/2013. It's a beautiful campaign although I personally don't like the female model, Aymeline Valade too much. I sort of think she looks a bit out of place,  I associate Bottega Veneta with a model with more elegant and softer facial features.

The pictures are still breathtakingly beautiful and sophisticated. Here the video to the campaign: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=RRQk64bl99I

Friday Favorites

Here's to new traditions! My Friday Favorites inspired by http://underahhundred.blogspot.de/
I will be presenting my favorites of the week every Friday, this week's top five categories being "Outfit of the week" (which I will be choosing from one of my followers' posts), "Music", "Travel", "Design" and "Cheerfulness" (you'll see what I mean)

Enjoy and have a happy, lovely weekend everyone!

Outfit of the week:

 (Miss Isabel aka http://foreverunderstated.blogspot.de/)

Isn't it lovely? Considering the fact she's done T-Shirt all by herself. Kudos. Forever Understated...: Destructive? Constructive !!

Music:

The lovely and talented Elle King. I don't know why but that song always puts me in a good mood.

Travel:

Le Royal Monceau Hotel Paris:

The Hotel is on Avenue Hoche (one of the most beautiful avenues of the world), completely renovated by Philippe Starck.

Just a couple of chosen pictures. For the real deal, look here: http://www.leroyalmonceau.com/#/home/

Design:

Diet Coke by Jean Paul Gaultier Campaign - I admit, I am not a big fan of Coke (diet or not) but I love JPG's design on those bottles. Bad news, the bottles are no longer available over here.

One for the laughs:

She's such an inspiration. You can't help but love this girl. PS. Thumbs up for the song.

Summer dresses mania!

I love checking out the many summer dresses / outfits of the blogs I follow and visit frequently, especially those of the lovely Miss Ivy aka http://notsopoisonous-ivy.blogspot.de and Miss Olga aka http://www.myblondegal.com/

Here's my contribution to the summer outfit mania:

First things first, we do not have an actual 'summer' over here in Germany although the past three days have been hot as hell. Secondly, this is an older picture (taken with my mom's not-so-flattering Sony cam - my apologies in advance for the bad quality) but I love wearing that dress, over and over again.

Quick question to my followers; I have been seeing outfit posts like these with brand names underneath them. What to do? Would you like to know the brands or should I just leave it at that?

And, last but not least, if you do have a Facebook page, please do pay me a visit:

http://www.facebook.com/missdkone

I am currently looking for pages I can feature.

Enjoy the sun.

Fashion vs. Louis & Coco

While browsing through several other blogs I couldn't help but notice that most of the blogs who have tons of followers are sort of a mini-Vogue issue with lots of Louis(es) and Coco(s) starring in them.

So the question is, do we need a reality check or just a quick check of our credit card limits?

Although I have to admit that most of those girls DO have an exquisite sense of fashion, I have a hard time believing that 90% of their somethingthousand followers do have the money it takes to dress like one of those girls. No, I'm not saying it like it's a bad thing. You don't have / need to be dressed in Haute Couture brands to be fashionable (or to feel fabulous and worthy).

I just cant help but wonder, is it the attraction to the unattainable that keeps girls / women so interested in those blogs?

And, finally, not to be a hypocrite, I also do love my Louis(es) and Coco(s) but I also love those 'no name' brands I get my dresses from.

A small experiment I've set up recently actually answered all of those questions. I had bought myself a nice, silk sequin dress from my favorite boutique a couple of weeks ago (for 180€ - no haute couture but still not 'cheap') and the feedback I got was amazing...ly confusing. Needless to say, everyone just loved the dress. They just seemed to love it more when I told them it's from HervĂ© Leger (Of course, I later told them about the experiment). Like I've said, they all loved the dress but the two whom I told it was from HL just couldn't stop talking about it / touching to feel its fabric and observe the flawless! stitching (their words, not mine).

At the end of the day, a dress is just a dress, isn't it? Or do you categorize your friends and relatives according to their names?

And, what happened to 'with great amount of money comes great responsibility'? Yes, I did steal that one from the Spiderman movie and changed it up a bit. Shouldn't people at some point (let's say after the tenth Chanel bag) just stop, take a step back and look around whether there's a greater cause they could spend the money for instead of purchasing their 11th CC bag or not?

Inspiration and Kenzo Pre-Fall 2012

Let me tell you this, there is nothing worse than going back to work after a short vacation. I was still trying to wake up at 1pm, and somehow managed to ignore the piles! of paperwork on my desk. I thought about blogging for a while but somehow ended painting my nails (talk about work ethic) - seriously, I can't be the only one doing non-work-related things at work, can I?

Starring: Chanel Le Vernis Lotus Rouge 455
Also strarring: My crazy post-it collection.

What was the strangest thing you did at work to kill time?

Having covered the 'inspired at work' part (or the lack thereof), moving on to the next topic. Have you seen the new video of Quentin Jones (who has previously worked on a video for Chanel) for Kenzo's pre-fall 2012 collection?

Now, I'll be off and on my way for some after-work-coffee with a friend. Thank God.

It's not fair...

Those of you who follow me on Twitter already know that I went to check out a small vintage boutique earlier today. The owner wouldn't let me take pictures but it's not really a big deal because the only good thing in that boutique was the music.

I couldn't help but sing along to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xfv52SEgCNA

It's a (more or less) old song but still perfect for the summer.

Annnnd... Of course, I didn't come back empty-handed (it took me half an hour to walk to that shop after all) .

This cute and useful 'necklace-holder' how I call it, made it home with me.

LK Jewelry, Isharya, Miguel Ases and many, many more. They're all about 50% off ladies so you better hurry! (It's for mobile so I can't post any links ladies, I am sorry)

I even spotted a KJL, a Black & Gold Chain Link Necklace for $225.00, now only $88.00!

Oh and please do check out the gorgeous cocktail outfit I put together at http://www.motilo.com/content/look-detail/?lookid=6892 and tell me how you like it ;)

Tom Ford vs. Dolce & Gabbana Eyewear

I've always been a die hard fan of D & G (as well as Prada) eyewear that I sometimes didn't even bother looking at other eyewear campaigns.
Of course, as you can see, that quickly changed after I've seen the new Tom Ford campaign. Sorry, D & G but I guess this fall, I am going to go with Tom.

Here are some of my personal favorites:

Tom Ford, I love you.

I usually am not a big fan of round-shaped glasses but this one just took my breath away. Seriously, how can you not love this?

And one for the guys!

I have to admit, this one would probably look horrible on a guy who has a round-shaped face (so if you are one of those guys, hands off!) but he is rocking it so... no complaints.

For the entire collection, visit http://www.tomford.com/#/en/eyewear/womens

Now to my (former) fave, D & G. I really am disappointed in this year's collection. The following style is the only one I've 'liked' so far (and I really think that I liked it more than the others because of the dress and the gorgeous Bianca Balti).

If you want to take a look, here's the link: http://www.dolcegabbana.com/

What do you think?

PS.
There's a reason why I haven't linked the eyewear section - if you scroll down, you'll find the Dolce & Gabbana 'Uomini' section... Eye-candy, that's all I'm saying.

Teen Choice Awards

Here a quickie since I am on mobile and Blogger's being a pain;
www.celebitchy.com is the only gossip and entertainment blog out there I follow more or less frequently and I just had to share this post with you.

http://www.celebitchy.com/241317/hayden_panettiere_in_sequin_zuhair_murad_at_the_teen_choice_awards_awful_or_cute/

I have to admit, I was truly curious after reading the headline and rushed to take a look at the dress that was supposedly so contraversial... until I scrolled down and spotted the B by Brian Atwood 'Fontanne' pumps. Seriously, with pumps like those (simply to die for!) who cares what you're wearing? Also, don't forget to scroll down and check out Ashley Benson's ensemble. Sad. Just sad. But you know what they say, there's no such thing as bad publicity. Right.

"I can resist anything except temptation..."

What better way starting a blog with a comment from my absolute favorite costume jewelry designer considering the fact there is no such thing as the 'perfect' or the 'right' way to start a blog?

Kenneth Jay Lane is a timeless creator with unique styles I've always admired and it's not only the fine details and the outstanding blend of different materials what makes his creations so special, it's the man himself with his quotes that reflect his down-to-earth and gentleman-like character.

When asked in an interview whether he's ever excited when a celebrity is wearing one of his pieces he replies with: "I get most excited when I see a woman on the street that I don't know wearing it."
You can't help but love the creator, and not only for his fabulous pieces.

For the interview, go and read http://accessorysource.blogspot.de/2010/02/behind-scenes-kenneth-jay-lane.html?m=1

Here the good stuff:
I've already made a mental KJL wish list regarding his latest collection and I am trying really hard (emphasis on really) not to go and treat myself with all of the exquisite pieces on my list as I am trying to get my shopping habits under control.

And yes, as you can see, I'm not really a mix-and-match type of girl, I prefer sets that are well-orchestrated.

Set one:
22-karat gold-plated Swarovski crystal and resin necklace

22-karat gold-plated crystal cuff

22-karat gold-plated crystal clip earrings

22-karat gold-plated crystal ring

 Set two:

Coral Beads Earrings

EMPRESS Coral Crystal Ring

ROYAL Coral Snake Bracelet

Set three:

White Enamel Elephant Bracelet

White Large Flower Ring

The earrings that were meant to go along with this set weren't to my liking but I've included them anyway should any of you want to take a look at them:

White Oval Enamel Earrings

The first set can be found on: http://www.net-a-porter.com/Shop/Designers/Kenneth_Jay_Lane

Sets number two and three are taken from http://www.pret-a-beaute.com and there is a 30% off the entire site so don't miss it!
